My first ever real hiking!

I must confess I was a bit nervous the night before hiking the Rigi. The Queen of the mountains (as it is also known) has an elevation of 1,798m (5,898f) above the sea level, and for me that sounded enormous!

I had everything with me, new powerful hiking shoes, proper clothing, cap, energetic food, water, and of course my camera and the tripod; the weather was also perfect, around 18ºC (64ºF) so nothing could be wrong.

We arrived to Weggis at 11am. Weggis is a little beautiful town located in the Kanton of Luzerne, we parked there and the adventure began.

As soon as i saw the first sign pointing the Rigi route and the estimated time it requires to get to the top, my eyes were wide open, 3 hours and a half (uphill!!!) Yes it was a bit shocking, it was officially my first time doing that, but I said, lets do it!

The first part of the hike was through the forest, the singing of the birds and the sound of a water stream were always around, which made it very relaxing. Wild flowers, huge pine trees, insects, and the great smell of pure air were fantastic!

The second part was the hardest because at some point there is no more forest, at this time the sun started shinning with no compassion, even though it was a partially-cloudy day. Yes it always happens, when you need the clouds to be there covering the sun, they just decide to go away... so the real challenge began, sure we did two small pauses, we ate some stuff and drank water to recover energy. For my big surprise we were hiking at a real good speed, we were supposed to finish the first part in 1.45hours, and guess what? We did it in just 50mins!! I was very happy!

It is here where the breathtaking views begin! As soon as you approach to the top you can observe mainly 3 lakes: Zugersee, Lake of Lucerne and Laursersee. Needless to say that they are magnificent, just see the pictures.

There is no doubt that this place can be enjoyed by people from all ages, there are restaurants on the top where you can have some food, cold drinks, souvenirs for the tourist, etc, there is even a carousel for the kids!

And for those who are not really into hiking, there is a possibility to take a cableway and a small train to get to the top and enjoy the Rigi experience.

Well, finally we reached the huge antenna, there I was in the top of the Queen on the Mountains, very proud of my feat, at the end it took us 1hour and 20 minutes total, pretty good for a hike that is officially estimated to take 3 hours and a half.

Thank you very much for reading and having a look on the pics! Feel free to share this post with your friends on your social networks :)
